Jim McAleese has been phenomenally popular all across Canada since he first went on stage in 1979. His TV appearances on the CBC’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival, CBC’s Comics! A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Open Mike! with Mike Bullard, CBC Radio’s “Madly Off in All Directions”, Comedy at Club 54, Corner Gas and The Winnipeg Comedy Festival on CBC over the years, have led to an extended run as one of this country’s funniest, and most genuine “clean” stand up comedy performers.
He has appeared in the best comedy clubs and theatres, here in Canada, the US, and in Europe, often receiving multiple applause breaks in one show. He’ll perform his brand of “no profanity” stand up comedy show on Sunday Nov 8th with support act Russell Roy, and special guests.
Jim McAleese has been entertaining audiences around the world, in a variety of ways for over twenty nine years, but its making people laugh at a live performance in an intimate venue, that Jim enjoys most of all. “I talk about my life,” he says. “It is the funniest thing I can think of. For some reason, people enjoy hearing about all my trials and tribulations.”
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jim has always had a gift for sharing laughter. When he learned that he could actually make a living from doing stand-up comedy, Jim left behind his life as a radio announcer at Q-107, and began his comedy career. It wasn’t long before he was touring the best comedy clubs across Canada. Jim got a big break when he was asked to perform nationally on The Alan Thicke Show on CTV. Since then he has become a regular writer for The NHL Awards on CBC, The Gemini Awards, the Genies, and the Canadian Sport Awards.
On TV, he appeared on CBC Comics! A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Comedy at Club 54, the Family Channel series Radio Free Roscoe, YTV’s System Crash, Doc starring Billy Ray Cyrus and CTV’s Corner Gas. Film credits include Frequency starring Dennis Quaid.
Warm up comedian and Emcee Russell Roy is known for his charming stage persona. He has risen to be one of the most sought after stand-up comics working today. Russell tells one-liners that everyone can identify with, and he is often known to drop his ‘act’ to ad-lib with members the crowd.
Roy jokes most often about the humorous side of family life, and current events. The warm reception for his brand of stand-up comedy has led to live appearances at service club fundraisers and corporate events all over Canada, and in the United Kingdom.
